eBay Ram Horn Manifolds (2 choices)

Any input on either of these? Or are ram horns hard to screw up...

first set is for non smog I would think if you are going with the rams horn look you are trying for oem look if so you would NOT want the second set UNLESS you have a smog pump on yours

No smog equipment in my truck. Is that what those bolts are for on the front of the manifolds in the 2nd listing?

You might want to consider looking for a good used set. I think you'll be pleased with the fit and finish of an OEM set.

Re: eBay Ram Horn Manifolds (2 choices)

why not move up to 2 1/2". neither of those examples is. they look to be 2" (I know one of the selections describes the outlet as being 2 3/8" but that is the measurement to the outside of the sealing bevel, not the pipe diameter. I got burned by just that sort of measurement on a set of e-bay manifolds before).

Haven't been able to find OEM for less than $100+ per side, and that's rusted to hell and back. Dorman & Wysco seem to be $120-$140 per side via JEGS etc... Don't really want to spend $200-$300 on them. Any suggestions?

I did just find these:

*** Will 327 ram horns work on a 350? Found these, could just saw off the bracket:

They're going to mating up with 2-1/4" HeartThrob exhaust system, would I just need a reducer? Have zero exhaust knowledge...

Those are pipe plugs more or less yes they are for the injection tubes (SMOG) 327 and trefitty should be the same.....sounds like the first ones would match your pipes

Re: eBay Ram Horn Manifolds (2 choices)

1966, yes the originals are pricey. the 1st set I bought for the 350 in my '66 was oem and I paid $225 if I remember right. after one broke (my fault) I replaced it with a $59 aftermarket. I'd say, if you don't need brackets buy the set without them.

how does the HeartThrob system attach at the manifold end? since the ramshorns take a pipe with a end that's built for a donut gasket with a stub pipe that fits up into the manifold, you'd want to make sure the one's you buy are the size you need. Zoom in on the ones in your link http://www.ebay.com/itm/201120760217. notice the machined area where the exhaust pipe fits.

those in your first post look like 2" to me but jtrichard may be right.

Do you need to mount your alternator on left side?

Re: eBay Ram Horn Manifolds (2 choices)

i just went through this on my 64 C10. Hated the headers, wanted factory rams horn manifolds. Here's what I learned;

1) It's not too terribly hard to find a nice, used LH manifold with 2.5" outlet at a decent price. They came on some Impalas, but the boss for alternator mounting is DIFFERENT than a Corvette, so the Corvette guys haven't bought them all up and driven the prices up.

2) The Corvette guys HAVE bought up all the good RH manifolds with 2.5" outlet, due to the fact that the Impala and Corvette castings are essentially the same. I bought a nice reproduction RH manifold with 2.5" outlet from a place called Crane's Corvette Parts. You really can't tell it apart from a factory casting.

All that said, I did spend more than it sounds like you are wanting to spend. I think I ended up spending about $250 for the pair. I've had them on my truck for several months now, and LOVE them. They sound good, look good, and fit good.

Re: eBay Ram Horn Manifolds (2 choices)

From the research I've done it seems like my setup would be better served doing 2.5" exhaust, and the HeartThrob is 2.25". I'm just gonna keep my eyes peeled for a set of GM manifolds and have the shop fab up a 2.5" system. Searching this forum and a few others leads me to believe a pre-fab 2.5" exhaust for a 350 doesn't really exist. Almost pulled the trigger on the Wysco Ram Horn Manifolds though.

FWIW, Rockauto.com has the Dorman 2-1/2" outlet manifolds for <$50 each + shipping.

Last question (sorry), it is true you can use two RH manifolds instead of a LH and RH? I could just buy 2 OEM right side manifolds and not have to worry about cutting off the generator bracket on the LH (?) Or are they side-specific?

Re: eBay Ram Horn Manifolds (2 choices)

other than the brackets, the ones that dump straight down are the same, left and right

I punched in 1962 Corvette and they come right up; Dorman P/N 674503 and 674504.

Here's a picture showing the difference between 2" and 2.5". It doesn't sound like a big difference, but it's a huge difference.

I have had good luck with buying parts and having them sent COD from people on CL. A couple of people don't get it but most know if you don't pay they are sent back or they don't want the hassle. Good luck!

early (at least) OEM are not the same left and right the left is set up for doughnut gasket and the right had a flat gasket for the heat riser (not tapered for the doughnut) the bottom face of the riser was tapered ........ if you look at the craigslist post you will see the right one has longer studs for the riser http://spokane.craigslist.org/pts/4569046318.html
