Need advice on positioning of rearend
 

What are the steps needed to correctly position or 'track' the replacement rear end in my 61 Step side? I'm dealing with trailing arms and coil springs so positioning correctly using the U Bolts is easy, but aside from the way it will sit after the drive shaft is connected, is there anything else to look for on the left to right positioning?

I would make sure that the trailing arm mounts are the same distance from the backing plate on both sides. If you go with an adjustable panhard bar, you can fine tune the tracking of the rear differential. Also you will have to get the pinion angle correct. Otherwise you will have a vibration and if it is too far off, you will go thru u-joints.

Thanks guys for the responses, they were very helpful. In regards to getting the correct pinion angle, since I've not welded the axle mounts to the rear end yet, I was thinking that rotating the snout so that the pinion yoke was in straight line with the drive shaft would insure I'm at the correct angle. Would this be sufficient?

You need to do more than that on setting the pinion angle. The way you are planning wont work. There are some threads here that go into it in great detail. The linked thread above is one way to do it.
