327/350 head and intake questions

I have a freshly done 350 block, and I wanted to know if I can run 327 heads(491,492s,etc.) with a smaller combustion chamber.the main reason is edelbrock has the ram log 6x1 intake and says it only is for 283-327. So I thought maybe I can run 327 heads and use that intake but on my 350 block, anybody have any experience on this subject or can explain why that 6 carb intake won't work on regular 350 heads I'd appreciate it

should be the same , the heads will interchange ,and the only reason the old intake would not fit is if you have newer than 96 "vortec" heads

That's what I thought, but I did t know if I put 327 heads on it and block some water passages or something, it is a 1970 350 block, and I'm going to try to find 327 heads to bump up the compression and maybe this 6 carb intake, it's going in a 1962 biscayne so it's going to look old school

Re: 327/350 head and intake questions

They are not talking about the heads when they say 283 327 they are talking about the block the 283 327 blocks have a breather in the back of the block and no holes in the valve covers the oil is poured in the engine thru the intake in the front , the heads fit from 1955 to whenever they stopped mmaking smmmall block chevy engines but as mentioned above the vortec heads are different ,,

Re: 327/350 head and intake questions

So I can use the intake on a 350 but there is a hole in the intake for the oil fill. Is there something they make to block that off where I can fill it through the valve cover like a normal small block, or do I jut have to give up on on having a 6x1 intake on a 350

Yes you can use it on a 350.
No it doesn't have a hole for an oil fill tube.
Just a thermostat hole and a distributor hole plus heater hose hole.

You can block off the hole with a freeze plug and use it with any pre 1987 heads you like

Re: 327/350 head and intake questions

If an intake has the oil filler hole you can block it off the one pictured does not , also edelbrock advertises items to fit the 283 & 327 because those engines are pre smog ,,, they know you are gonna use them on engines newer but they cant say that ,,,
