Transmission fluid leak?

5 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I noticed today some fluid dripping off of my transmission. My truck is an 83 silverado with a th350. It appeared to be leaking out of my speedometer cable. I tightened it and it has appeared to stop. It is also dripping off my driveshaft, and it appears to be coming out of it. Is that possible? Please forgive my lack of knowledge, I've just started working on trucks. It is a big learning curve, but I absolutely love it! What could be causing the leak? Also, I took a picture of something (last pic) that I didn't know what it was. Any help? Thanks!

Fluid tends to travel so it's hard to get a bearing on where a leak is coming from when it's all over the place. Get some brake cleaner and hose the area down to clean the existing stuff off, and wipe it down afterwards. Then you can see where the actual leak may be coming from.

That is what mine looked like and it was the speedo gear seal.

There are several threads on this, do a search on "Drive Shaft Leaks". Should be some sort of cup and o-ring in the transmission that keeps the fluid from creeping down the splines and out the vent.
