Blower motor rebuild

My blower motor keeps quitting but if I hit it hard with a metal bar, it'll start running again. After a while, it starts running slow so I have to whack it again. What's wrong with it and can it be rebuilt?

there is probably a bad gear in there or a bearing that allows something to get away from what is driving it.. I don't know whether it can be rebuilt it depends on damages once you take it apart and the availability of parts

Just get a new one at AZ or OReillys, 25 bones and it will blow more air ;)

Price must have gone up. They're over $50 now.

I wouldn't even bother trying to rebuild it,remove & replace.I replaced the heater core in my crew last fall & did the blower motor same time, you can't put a price on a blower motor when it's -40 deg C.

If you are looking for a "cheap to get me by for a while" fix, drill a 1/16" hole in the top of the "bump" in the middle of the end of the blower motor and spray a small bit of wd40 in it, run for a while then put a few drops of 3-n-1 or other light oil in it.

How hard is it to replace? Mine makes a nose at start up then quits , but annoying.

found one at CARQUEST for 18.39

The motor comes out real easy, 5 screws I believe, 1/4" hex head.
The fun part is changing the fan itself.
You have to reach down inside the fan to remove a clip that holds the fan to the motor shaft.
Personally, I would rather spend a couple bucks more and get a motor with fan already attached.

I have my dash out right now, getting it recovered, I will check it out. Maybe it is the just the fan that is making the noise.

The blower motor and fan assembly come out from the engine compartment side.
Check to see if mice and packrats made a nest in the fan housing like they did on mine.
It made a lot of noise with their crud in there.
