new silverado rims on our trucks?? anyone got pics??

Hey guys, I have been looking at newer silverado rims (18") for my truck, they are all over CL at fair prices and I like the way they look. I heard I would need to use spacers, but I searched and couldn't find any pics or threads. Anyone running them?

IDK if they would fit. I tried putting a set of 95 chevy 6 boly wheels on my 86 and the center hole was too small.

Yup. The 6 lug wheels won't go over the pilot on an older truck, and there are no newer 5 luggers.

I dont see why you couldn't machine out the centers to fit.

Backspacing on a 15" styled steel rim from the 70's is 4" and worked great on my 70 K10. Backspacing on a 2000 16" Chevy aluminum rim is over 5". The hub size is different too. Hub size for a 1970 is 3.5 and the late model rim is 3"

You are gonna need a heck of a spacer.

Yeah, I read a 1.5" spacer was needed for a set of 08' rims someone put on.

Me too :) I was thinking, I could easily machine out the centers using a cylinder boring tool.

I wish someone with a machine shop would manufacture a spacer that would make the swap easier. I have a set of 97 wheels I'd love to put on my Burb when it is done.

I have seen spacers that use existing studs, and then have new, offset studs to space the wheels out

Yes, you could machine the wheel or pay to have it done. It wasn't worth it to me for the 1991 Z71 wheels I got for $100.

I don't think the 5-6 lug adapters are piloted, that might make for an easy bolt on.

Perhaps someone could photoshop these wheels onto a truck so we can see what they might look like.

I've been seriously thinking of running new take of 20's on my Suburban. Like to see what is found here.

As far as adapters go I was thinking something like this

I'm running G2 Gear and Axle spacers on the rear of my 67 with 22" GM Transit wheels. The fact that the rear axle is narrower required the use of a spacer (1.5" if i remember correctly) and this also solved the hub size issue. I got mine from Summit.

No spacer required on the front. I've got the CPP Modular (narrowed track width) drop spindles and a CPP disc brake conversion up there.

Truck isn't in the nosebleed section anymore, but didn't want to let the cat out the bag yet!

That is exactly what I was thinking too with the different hub sizes machined on each side.

In college it would have been easy to machine something like this up using the lathe and mill in the machine shop.

you wouldn't really need the lip on the inside where the hub comes through, just grind it flush. the lug nuts "should" keep the rim centered
