let's talk, Posi.
trying to decide which carrier i want to run in my 12 bolt. Not looking for a locker, just a nice, quiet, smooth, reliable, strong, limited slip unit that will allow for enjoyable street driving, but then light up both 295/50's when i want. ;)
also, switching to 3.73's, which company would you recommend for gears? thoughts? |
Re: let's talk, Posi.
I have an Eaton posi unit with 3.42 Jeg's gears in my '85 I'm pretty happy with.

Re: let's talk, Posi.
I also have an Eaton posi unit, quiet and lights up both tires on demand. 3:73 gears with a stock 454. I really like the 3:73's but an overdrive trans is in my near future.

Re: let's talk, Posi.
Eaton definitely seems to be the popular choice. I will be adding one to my 12 bolt this winter to help to put the power of my 6.0 to the ground.

Re: let's talk, Posi.
I've had an eaton posi in my 12 bolt with 3.42s for 7 years. Works great, not annoying at all ( no chattering). I can really tell it's working in snow and on gravel because the one wheel slips a bit on tight corners, leaving a pattern.

Re: let's talk, Posi.
Definitely an Eaton posi with a set of richmond gears. Don't cheap out on the gears!! Ask me how I know. Lol

Re: let's talk, Posi.
The Eaton Posi - is this a cone type? Anyone use a Torsen/Helical style?
|
Re: let's talk, Posi.
I had an Auburn cone type and didn't like it at all. It worked fine as a posi unit but at low speeds turning, like changing lanes at at a light or pulling into a driveway, it would pop and jerk like the rearend was coming apart. I found out that was just how a cone type worked.

Re: let's talk, Posi.
everyone is saying eaton, is it the clutch type lsd their talking about or the trutrac lsd carrier?
clutches are nice for a light street car, but a big truck id like the trutrac. |

I ran a Auburn with Motive Gears in my last car 800hp driven all the time on the street. Never popped while making a turn and always worked as it should. I did run the GM additive in mine.

Re: let's talk, Posi.
i got an eaton posi with 4.11 and master install kit for 650 online. worth every penny.

Re: let's talk, Posi.
Auburn for me. Never a problem and smooth.
I have an auburn and has always worked perfect. You do have to have the proper additive. If you buy the fluid off the shelf with it added to it, it is not enough . You will have to add the gm additive as well or it can pop and make some noise . It has to have the proper additive. |

I have installed them on street vehicles, and several 4x4's ( front and rear). Beat them like the owed me money, and never failed. I have broken several Detroit lockers though. |
Re: let's talk, Posi.
I use Torq-Line gears, made by US-Gear. USA made, pattern awesome, and never had an issue with them. Check the out on the net.

Re: let's talk, Posi.
What is the Tru-Trac like in the dead of winter on ice? I don't really want a Low-Side-Detector (LSD).

Re: let's talk, Posi.
I've got the eaton posi, and on snow and ice I love it. However, I have proper winter tires that are studded.
