water in #7 cylinder

Hello all,

I have water getting into #7 cylinder. I pulled the head last night and can not locate a crack and the head gasket showed no signs of failure.

I see a water jacket running under the intake, Is that a possible source of the water? Does the 5.7 TBI motor have a common failure that i can not see?

The motor is tired and not worth much. I honestly thought it would be a head gasket and back together already. I just wanted to have it running/driving as i prepped a new motor i am building for a swap.

Chris

update,

after very detailed inspection with a magnifying glass, i could see it was only the head gasket.

all back together, no cracks.

That's great. Mine got water into exactly the same cylinder, turned out a little worse as it got stopped the engine when trying to start up. You lucked out ;)

Mine hydro locked 20 miles from home. Until then i had no idea i had an issue unit i tried to start it. I got lucky as it did not destroy the motor. I bumped the starter a few times thinking it was a flywheel starter issue. Lucky more me my motor is a little tired and the water bypassed the rings/valves finally and it started.

It is running great now, 331,000 on this 350 and still doesn't more than a quart every 5k miles.
