Newbie with a problem 95 gmc

So I am new here I've been a long time lurker of the site. But I have a problem I have a 95 gmc 2wd with a 5speed. I went out this morning to start it, and the key wouldn't turn and the steering wheel was locked. The steering wheel is not tightly locked but the wheels are straight. I've rocked the truck back In forth in gear, turned the steering wheel left and right trying to free up the cylinder and nothing has happened. I've unplugged the battery disabled the airbag rented a steering wheel puller and got a new key and tumblr. Then I was starting to pull the steering wheel. But I cannot get the airbag out. I have got one side out, but can't get the other. This is becoming a big pain as it is hangin up my daily driver. Any tips or tricks to get the tumblr to roll? Any advice. I've searched and have found very little information on this. Thank you very much for your help!!

Here are a couple Captain Obvious questions that I'm sure you've already thought of:

1.) Have you tried rocking the steering wheel back and forth as you're trying to turn the key?

2.) Are you absolutely sure you're trying the correct key?

I would try a new key from the dealer. They can cut one from the vin. Its $15-20

The keys get worn and then you have to wiggle and jiggle the key to get the cylinder to turn.

I'm %100 positive it's the right key. I have two keys, one has recently been cut within the past two months. I've used it three times and it's worked everytime. So it's not the key as I've tried both of them. Yes I've rocked the steering wheel while trying to turn the key.

I have heard of drilling the tumbler out?

I have only ever seen one ign switch jam to to point of not being able to start it. If I remember correctly you don't pull the steering wheel on 10 cut ign switch it requires a special curved stiff wire to release the switch from the housing I have done a few back in my repo days but that was 10 years ago. If you can't get it by wiggling the key around call a locksmith before you break something. Our 95 hoe is really worn to the point that other people can't turn the ign switch but either of us hop in and crank it right over.

I've wiggled and jiggled it around. Put lube in the cylinder, nothing at all is working. And there is hardly no information out there about this. Thank you for all the replies this far!

Someone has had this problem before, insure of it. Someone has had to replace a tumbler that was jammed up. Any help please!!!! This is my daily driver and I've been messing with it since yesterday. I really need some kind of input. Should I just drill it out? Won't that release the pins

Like I said and it is if I remember correctly the switch is held in by a spring loaded tab like a woodruff key. Drilling it won't do anything except make a mess. Call a locksmith to come pull it out for you only way to do it that I know of without busting the switch out requires that special tool.

When you buy the new cylinder, get it from the dealer. They will code it so you wont be annoyed with having one key for the door, and one key for the ignition. I would still recommend a new key cut from the vin, not a copy of a worn old key.

That's a neat trick will have to remember that one. I only ever pulled switches without keys which requires the special tool to release the ignition lock.

It worked like a charm. I'm glad I found it, and I hope this helps out somebody else that has this problem.
