changing color
I have been thinking of changing the color of some of my interor trim like the dash and console. Problem is every type of dye (sp) and paint I get, I can still scratch off. What brand of stuff have you guys used to change the color of your plastic and maybe your steering column?

don't you remember what your mother used to tell you
"Don't pick at that!" Actually, I'm curious too :) |
I never could get paint to stick on the plastic in my S-10 Blazer I had so I ended up having everything wrapped in greay tweed. It looked good but it cost about $600. Our trucks would be a lot cheaper b/c there is nowhere near the amount of plastic that was in the blazer.

I used SEM Interior paint on all the plastic stuff and the dash. It seems to hold up pretty good on everything. I have scratched a few pieces and the paint did not come off. Only time will tell though. I do have to be careful with the dash however cause it seems to be more susceptible to scratching maybe cause its surface is softer. I am having my column paint with PPG base coat/clear coat. :D

Btw, did you prime before painting?
Lightly sand the panels, lay down some good primer, then paint, it should stick better :) |
plastic paint
rustoleum has come out with a plastic primer paint. when i find some i am going to try it. says it will make any topcoat stick to plastic. check their web site out.

I know for my dash, since I'm filling the cracks, I'm sanding it smoothish, priming, putting on rockerguard for texture, then painting some krylon plasitc paint over it
The krylon plastic paint is supposed to be somewhat like plastic when it goes on, and be very durable. We'll see :) Maybe I'll get my dash done tonight and I'll give an update |
