Tahoe Limited questions
I just picked up 2000 Tahoe limited (88-99 body style in case that is not implied :) ).
I read that the Limited's have the body mounted 2" lower on the frame than on the 4x4's, but are all 2-wheel drive Tahoes/Yukons the same thing, or is the body 2" lower than a 2-wheel drive also? If some one has a Limited that has not been lowered, can you give me a measurement from the center of the wheel to the edge of the fender well. I am pretty mine has been lowered but I am not sure how much. I know the rear has at least a shackle, but it is very long. The rear spring has a negative arch, and it is much higher in the back than the front (slopes down from rear to front) so I am thinking it is shackle and no hanger? Anything I need to look out for or need to know? Thanks! |

No one?

Re: Tahoe Limited questions
I've never heard they were lower in any way from the factory. As for the shackles and hangers you'd have to compare to a stock set or get someone to measure their hoe for you.

Re: Tahoe Limited questions
Yeah, beyond everything that the Limited package gives it, it's the same as any other 2wd 4 door Tahoe/Yukon.

Re: Tahoe Limited questions
I do believe the Tahoe Limited has the same suspension as the Z56 Police Package Tahoe. I have a 1999 Z56 Tahoe and part of the Police Package is the front end is lower than a stock Tahoe, and I think its 3 inches. I have all the Z56 Tahoe Specs at home and will confirm on here tomorrow. The biggest difference between the Limited and the Z56 Tahoe are the tires/rims. The Limited runs 16's and the Z56 run P235/70R15's and GM's reason for that was after the demise of the 94/99 9C1 Caprice with the Police Package a lot of Police Departments had 235/70R15 tires stock piled from the Caprices and they could be used on the Tahoe. I would love to get a 1999/2000 Tahoe Limited and have looked over the years but the ones I found were miled out and the sellers still wanted big money for them.

Re: Tahoe Limited questions
According to Wikipedia (I know...) and the best I could come up with through Google (which might just be repeating what is on Wikipedia?), "Other notable features of the Tahoe Limited included the Z60 high-performance chassis package (commonly known as the police package) which places the body of the vehicle 2 in (51 mm) lower than the 4WD Tahoe...", but I would think that is the same as all 2-wheels drives?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Tahoe I have seen it mentioned as both the Z60 and the Z56 package too? Already Gone, I would love any info you have! About the tires, is that something that is documented someplace, or is it word of mouth? I ask because I read on one site that the reason for the Limited was a federal or police order got canceled, leaving GM with a run of these rides and no place to dump them. So they made them fancy to get rid of them. And the number's I read were (always from my friend/uncle/brother that worked at a dealer at the time...) 7,500, 8,xxx or 22,xxx units produced? |

I don't have a lot of time until the weekend but found a pic I had of a Tahoe Limited doing Police work. In the attached pic a Tribal Police Dept. from New Mexico ordered 50 Limiteds to use as police cars. The black and white was used by the Beverly Hills PD.

I sent member Keith Seymore a message and here is what he had to say:
"I happened to be the Program Engineering Manager for the Police Tahoe (as well as the Denali and Escalade) starting in 2001 and 2002 model years. Unfortunately I've probably forgotten more than I remember. One thing I can say for certain, though, is that the relationship between the body and the frame is the same as all other Tahoe models. The reason is that there is only so much space between the frame and body to allow fuel lines and electrical harnesses to pass through; try to alter that arrangement and there would be interferences all over the place. I think someone saw the verbiage about "the body is 2 inches lower" and interpreted that as a change between the body and frame, rather than lowering the overall vehicle 2"." So these may have been lowered suspension wise, the bodies were not mounted lower on the frames. Also, member Mr_Shamrock took some measurements for me of a stock Limited and he said his was 19.5" in the front and 18.75" in the rear, "BUT it is parked at a weird angle right now". I measured mine at 17" front and rear. Just wish I knew what was done in the front to lower it as it all looks old/stock? I have 20's now, but would like a different style wheel; one with a machined lip! If I am going that direction I might go 22's and then lower the truck another ~1" to maintain ride height, but tuck the wheels a little more. |
Re: Tahoe Limited questions
I like these Tahoes. My brother has been looking for a clean one for a couple of years now. He passed one up in 12, but found this one, just over an hour away from home. He got it just last week.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...psoslvcqr6.jpg They def have a nice stance, a little hard to find tires that are wide enough for the stock rims to. |

Re: Tahoe Limited questions
They definitely sit the same as the 2WD Tahoes, I replaced a 99 2WD Tahoe with my 2000 Limited and briefly had them both and they were the same. Here is mine...

Sorry about the weird angle thing I was in the process of doing the intake gaskets when you asked for the measurement so I couldn't move the truck and it was parked in my driveway where there is a weird dip on one side. If you still need a more exact measurement the truck is moving again. |
