Tank removing ???

This shows why removing the gas tank does nothing for more leg room in a stock truck! The seat is as far back as I can get it and it seat right for me. I'm 5' 9". The tilt wheel helps but I have a normal size steering wheel also.:chevy:

Yeah I don't understand how people think it'll allow the seat to go back further. They must not actually look at it.

I have wondered before why someone doesn't do that panel like a corvette. That would be awesome if done right.

Something like this would give you the added leg room and be cool as heck all in one! Well I think so anyway. I bet you could get another 3-6 inches out of it as far as leg room.
By the time you push the seat bottom further back the top would still get about 3" I would think. It would take a good metal guy though to get it right but very do able and it would also lead into a console in the floor.

I am doing this now...

I will be cutting out sections of the metal panel around bucket seats to give me some additional space. It's a compound curve so not easy... not sure if I will wind up taking the whole piece out or not...

I did take the gas tank out as well as part of this project... however I knew that the real room would come from cutting out the panel under the window

I'll be shaving some foam out of the bucket seat backs, hopefully that will also buy me another inch or so... And I've also modded my brake pedal and gas pedal assemblies to give me more legroom.

I'm 6'5" and it's a little cramped in there

Pics when I get there

Could you post some pictures when you get a chance please I really would like to see what your doing. I'm not that tall and don't think I need that much more room. I love the idea and the look though! If I get 3" I would be happy.
I was thinking just cut the metal panel to fit around the seat with some nice trim on the edge to keep from ripping it if it came in contact with it. The head rest may have to come off also which isn't a biggie. I think there is enough room between the seats that my sub box would have the 2 subs stacked in the middle.

Thanks,
Looking forward to seeing your progress!
Well I've talked to 2 of my local club members on F/B and they are willing to help me with this. One will help build the shroud around the seats the other said he would build the sub box! I just may end up doing it.

I washed the truck today and drove it to work. I measured the panel behind the seat. It looks like about 3" max if that much. I don't know if it would be worth the time and money for no more to gain than that!:chevy:

Shaving the seats is a great option. I had 3" taken out of the pad and the bottoms shaved. Happy with the leg room and not so "straight up" seating position.

Do you have any installed pictures? What seats are those?
I have thought about getting some channel and making some new mounts with a little bit of rack. Looking at my picture the seat is almost even with the top of the metal panel. so if you cut the bracket as low as possible it should fit but you want have any up down motion on the seat. Not much anyway if any.

Andy - What are you using for CAI (the red piece)? Is it actually pulling air from somewhere besides the engine compartment?

Im looking for ideas...

Thanks

The air filter is a true cold air from the front of the radiator support.
Here is a link for you.

Seats are factory Buddy Buckets. I pulled the tank as well. But like I said shaving seats is what have me more room.

Andy,

If you have the 17in wheel and change it down you will see a difference.

Yes I know. I had this Corvette wheel for a long time in it. I may go back with it but I like the SS Chevelle wheel.:chevy:
