Drip rail rot

Hay all.

I was poking around my truck yesterday, daydreaming (about all I can afford to do with it right now  )...anyway, I noticed some rust holes just above the windshield on the inside of the cab. The drip rails are uneven on the horizontal surfaces like they're bubblkling out so I think they're rusting from the inside out. Is this a common problem? Am I in for a pile of work to fix this and what kind of options are there.

Many thanks,

Greg

I'd vote for shaving them all together. I'm getting ready to bite it and take on the task myself but from what I've read and heard it's a delicate task

You can buy a "header patch panel" for the inside of the cab above the windshield, but the rust in the driprails won't be that easy to fix. My driprails are compleley rotted out, with rush on top of and below the driprail, almsot all the way through in some places. If the rest of your cab is in good shape, you can "clip" the cab, and weld on a new section of cab from the windshield pilliars to the floor....if the rest is rotted, i would look for a new cab (what i am doing for mine) :(

My vote would be to shave them that's what I am gonna do.

yikes!! sounds like a nasty task. Good for learning, maybe, but nasty. I guess if it's far-gone, it's not like I could make it much worse.

I'd been wondering about shaving 'em anyway; does that cause any day to day problems like water dripping through open windows or anything? Rotting the windshield frame maybe?

Thanks for the replies!

Greg
