Another disc/wheel question
 

63 C10. Again, the ago old question... I want to run a front disc conversion WITH a stock steel 15" wheel. Disc conversion suppliers say no. Is it possible without finding some special year voodoo wheel? Is there a new steel wheel available? LCA mods?

I still haven't purchased a kit. 5 or 6 lug doesn't mat.ter at this point. Like the older steel wheel style, and I want to run dog dish cap.

If you must have stock, GM production wheel, find you a 71 chevy "4 nub wheel"

I'm in the midst of swapping in '79 C10 front suspension on my '62 and I'm going to run plain ol' 5 lug steel wheels. They clear everything just fine and I'v got drop spindles. The fronts are 15x6 and rears are 15x7 and I found them digging through a pile of wheels at the junk yard so I can't tell you what exactly they're from. also found couple that were on a truck still and the same dog dish caps I ran on my original 6 lug wheels fit on the new 5 lug Wheels.

But, 5x5 steel wheels are getting harder to find. That's a common trailer bolt pattern as well as 70's full size gms that are used for demo derbies. I used one I dug up in mud because it was all I could find.

Hi, What I just figured out is that if you have a stock steel rim, they will not clear the calipers, BUT I could run my partshouse chrome reverse rims (painted red in the pics) no problem, The reverse rims were only reversed about an inch compared to the stock steel ones but it made all the difference in clearance, I want to run the large dish caps and rings (painted black) so Ill just get some spacers in there to get the clearance,

Try a 1/4" wheel spacer. Worked on my '66 with factory drum wheels and disc brakes.

Hi Astronaut, Thanks for your input, I got aftermarket disk setup and must have a larger caliper than you ran, Because I tried to put some fat 1/4 inch thick washers on 3 of the lugs so I could just move the truck around in my shop and there was still not enough clearance, Then I got the angle grinder out and rounded the outer corner of the caliper. Still not enough clearance for some reason,

I was going to look for some 3/4 inch spacers if they make em.

I went with the Wheel Vintique 62 series 15x6, and going 5 lug ECE. We'll see how it goes...

From my experience, stock 7" wide steel wheel will clear with stock spindles and a stock caliper. It will not clear with a drop spindle with over 2.5" drop. A 1/4" spacer will make it clear.

I just picked up a pair of 71', 5", 6-lug nubbies that are disk brake ready.
The center lug part should stretch out at 90 degrees angles from the rim's center for caliper clearance,
where the non-disk brake wheels stretch at about a 45 degree angle from the rim if that makes sense. :uhmk:

If you go with Wheel Vintiques, try looking them up at Summit Racing. They usually sell them for less.
