does this look right???
3 Attachment(s)
I bought this truck a couple of days ago. took a chance and drove it 200 miles back home. made it with no problems. it has what looks like a one barrel carb. has a 350 v8 . did they come like tis from factory? I never saw this combination. anyway it idles too high when cold . will not idle at all when warm. maybe the choke thermostat?? old farm truck with 4 in floor

Re: does this look right???
that's Rochester 2 barrel carb and they did come with them , the choke could be out of adjustment or the themostatic spring shot , just a safety sugjestion , I would loose that neoprene fuel line , as that's a invitation to a fire , expecialy as close to thet exahaust manifold , see if you can find a steel line or go to napa and buy a new one and bend it up to fit , they have them witht the double flare fittings at both ends , good looking truck even has the optional side tool box , and usually they are roached out nice truck

Heck n...yep, that looks like a 2bbl 350 to me. Looks like you have a '73 tool & stowage compartment door. I've had one like that, latched just fine, too.

Re: does this look right???
Nothing to do with your fuel problem but a two barrel and stick shift just might
be a 307 CID. Check the stamp number on the block. Just FYI. |

Re: does this look right???
Engine could be swapped or just the manifold. Do I see blue paint peeking through on the manifold? Get us a picture of the harmonic balancer and/or read the engine code

Re: does this look right???
Looks like a new choke pull off, new bolt holding carb on, someone was trying to correct the problem before you got it. (notice how gas was leaking on manifold, then wiped off).. Choke pull off rod needs adjustment for the cold high idle, could be a vacuum leak, idle adjustment for low idle. nice looking truck by the way...

Sure sign of a swap or mix 'n match. |
Re: does this look right???
well, I messed with the carb with no luck. started to just buy a new one. $250 for a rebuilt??? thinking now to just change to a 4 barrel. any suggestions on which carb and to intake to buy? not looking for high dollar just easy swap and dependable.

Re: does this look right???
Don't throw away big money on a new 4bbl & intake just yet.
Invest in a rebuild kit, or take it to someone who knows these carbs if you're not comfortable doing it yourself. Address that fuel line. Check for vacuum leaks. Looks like you've got conventional ignition, probably could use a tune-up too. Nothing wrong with a 2bbl on a 350. Saved my 2bbl & intake from my old '74 Malibu Classic with a 350. Put it on a 350 crate motor, added HEI, and dropped it in an old C/10 beater and that thing flat-out flew! Decent gas mileage too. You should check the casting numbers on the block and confirm what size engine you have. Could be a 350, 307, or even a 327. I once looked to purchase a '70 C/10 that had a later year (Blue paint) 305 coupled with a 3-speed manual. So, you could have just about any size V-8 in there. Post a couple more pics of the carb w/o air cleaner, as well as the harmonic balancer if you can. |
Re: does this look right???
