Electric fans question
 

So I am installing two electric fans on my 70 C10. Is there a specific way to mount them? Meaning should I mount them on the front or rear of the radiator? I'm thinking since the original fan and shroud were behind the radiator, that maybe I should mount them there. By front I mean behind the grill and behind I mean in front of engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It will depend on which fans you have ,pusher (outside radiator) or puller (inside toward the motor) .

Are you overheating? Do you need more air across your radiator? Does your factory fan fit into the shroud properly (by that, I mean the blades are approximately half and half into the shroud, so that they actually pull air from the radiator). Is the radiator clean inside and out? I agree with the fact the type of fan decides the place of mounting them. Pusher fans are not as effective as puller type fans, but if you are keeping the factory fan and shroud, then you need to get pusher design and mount them directly in front of the radiator. However, the fan itself now becomes a small bit of a restriction on the radiator air flow, if they are not running.

Thanks guys. The engine is new and tge radiator is a brand new aluminum radiator. So is it better to get a pull type fan rather than a push one in my case?

Under those circumstances, what are the fans for? The factory setup is more than adequate with a fresh radiator. The electric fans would only be of use if you planned to sit in traffic in hot weather with the AC on.

Puller fans are much better at cooling than pusher fans.:chevy:

From past experience, I am not sure as to why you are looking for electric fans and with plans to keep the factory fan. I have changed out my trucks to electric fans and eliminated the belt driven fan on some of my trucks. I gained some benefits from that change out, but I did not keep both sets of fans. Attached are pictures of an 84 GMC with dual electric fans and also a 91 Silverado with the same set of fans. Both change outs were very similar and I never had any cooling issues after the modification.
