I don't know anything about them but looking at them I would say it doesn't matter which side it goes on.

thats what i say, but one has a groove machined into it near the teeth and the other doesnt, just wanted to know if there needs to be a snap ring. i found an exploded view in a GMC master parts book. i have a library around the corner with a hugh automotive section maybe i can find it there. this will be my road trip rig cant have it jacking up offroad climbing pikes peak!!! thanks for the reply gave me a needed BUMP...

I wonder if it was a superseded part, originally made w/o a snap ring and they realized they needed one.

thats too funny, i was thinking they just had a bunch of usable parts and figured it didnt matter and just tossed them together cuz the worked with or without the snap ring. as long as there is an internal groove for a snap ring to hold the inner gear it won't matter, also if one groove is closer to the outer hub then it will be side orientated, or there may be 2 grooves on the shaft for either of the inner gears. i need pictures of live setups, cuz i only have the hubs off the burban. i will be able to check in a week as thats the next time i will be at my storage unit... thanks for your help!!! hey i have a few parts i will be posting also in a week!!! PM sent

Hmm , parts book shows 3781982 as the hub ,3867378 as the gear 1960-1968, 3958029 as the ring with bushing 1970-1974 K20 and 3937071 as the Bolt for 1968-1980.

I would try to fit everything in each hub. As long as you can get the axle c-clip on and the outer fits the splines, and snap ring goes in, you should be good to go.
