vapor canister for LS swap
I want to hook up the vapor canister when I install the 5.3L in my '80 C10. The original many port canister is "dead", having puked most of its' fuel contaminated charcoal onto the radiator support. I'd like to use a later model 2 port canister and was wondering if I ran the canister purge line to the air filter box (stock filter box from '05 Tahoe) there would be enough of a vacuum draw to actually pull the fuel vapors into the intake. My PCM has been reflashed to eliminate the evaporative system, and my harness has no wiring capability for a purge valve. Any thoughts? Thanks

Re: vapor canister for LS swap
That may work, I highly doubt it though. But drawing unmetered fuel vapor may cause fuel trim issues because the PCM doesn't know it's purging the tank.

Re: vapor canister for LS swap
Why would you actually want to do this? (was it just a curiousity ?)
If your having vapor lock or fuel smell problems, they can be corrected with a breather or cap venting. |
Re: vapor canister for LS swap
No problems, just looking for a way to pull the fuel vapors from the canister and recycle them, that's all. If needs be, I'll just leave the purge line open at the canister. What's in the truck, now, is fouled and stinking of stale fuel and definitely needs to be replaced

Re: vapor canister for LS swap
All I did on mine was run the vent from the tank along side my fuel line and put a little vent like what comes on the rearends and bolted it to the back of the head . I get no fuel smell at all .
