Looks like your good to go.

Re: lowering the 71 stepside
Take a look in the rear and make sure your spring cups aren't rusted out. Nothing like getting ready to do a job just to find out you need more parts.

Re: lowering the 71 stepside
An adjustable panhard bar would not be a bad addition.
I went with a track bar and have been quite happy with it. |
Re: lowering the 71 stepside
I have a 1971 shortbed stepside and lowered it 4 1/2 in the front and 5 in the back. I have a Porterbuilt adjustable trac bar and it's still sitting on the shelf. I think why I didn't have to use it was because I did 3 inch drop springs and 2 inch drop blocks in the rear.

Re: lowering the 71 stepside
That is just about the same thing i'm doing. I have 2.5" drop front spindles with 1" frop springs and then was going originally with a 3" rear drop spring, but think ill go with a 4" drop spring. Not to steel the thread, but are rear shock relocates required for the 4" rear drop?

Re: lowering the 71 stepside
Can lowering blocks be used with rear coils ? Might be a dumb question. Thanks

Re: lowering the 71 stepside
Yes on the blocks but 2" is thought to be the limit due to scrub line.

Re: lowering the 71 stepside
Called Summit today to find some lowering blocks, I installed some 4" lower springs but only dropped about 2.5 " Summit told me that they don't have any lowering blocks for trailing arms with coil springs. Do I make my own. Need help. Thanks

Too large of lowering block will make the trailing arm drag the ground in the event you would have a flat on that side. (basically holding the wheel off of the ground) This would affect your ability to stop using that wheel's brakes. It also makes the trailing arm very close to the ground. I never use more than a 1.5" lowering bock with 15" wheel. On my trucks with 20" wheels, I use a 2" lowering block. |
