PO had replaced pass side rear axle studs with longer studs, here is my problem I am using 1 1/2" wheel spacers and it doesn't allow my rim to fit flush on the spacer, studs stick out 1/8 to 3/16" more, I have a temp fix with flat washers only for rolling it around ( not real safe for driving) * * My question is will the studs pop off and on with out the aide of a Press * *

I don't really understand what your tryin to do. but if ya screw the lug nut on the stud a few threads you can pound the studs out with a hammer then take the lug nut off and remove the stud or just pound the studs out without the lug nut screwed on but the stud will be wasted for sure

I am trying to get the studs off and then install stock (new) ones back on " with out" the aide of a hydraulic press,

I tried the big hammer trick (2 lb) on my K20, could be done but was a pita, i used my press, your hubs may be easyer? only way to know is to try.

Yea, just use a hammer, two or three hits should do it.

They usually pound out pretty easy. the hard part is getten the new ones to pull back in good and tight.. I use a air wrench and some old lug nuts and don't try and use the same nut to pull over a couple studs tight or the lug nut will wear out and strip your new studs

I usually hammer them out. Pull them back in with a nut taper side out with a couple of greased/oiled washers in between the nut and hub face.Sometimes space permitting a c-clamp works with a socket over the threads. I've never had the opportunity to use a press.

Not a good idea to use the threads to install the studs. Use a stout c-clamp and piece of pipe or deep impact socket over the stud to install them.

Make sure the spline on the new studs are the same diameter as the old.

We have two things in common, Old black chevy trucks and novas, mine a 68 C10 and a 64 Chevy II, now that we have shaken hands I'll give this a try but dont understand what the gressed/oiled washers will do,

PS The 22's on the Truck got replaced real fast like, I don't like wagon wheels but I can understand that some people do! Just not me, LOL The ChevyII I have just found a new bullet for it 6 cyl, I know how has a 6cyl any more well I do!

I will have to look and see if I have enough room for the C-clamp, The rear axle is still in the truck

It's kinda like a very basic bearing. Most of your mechanical force will go towards pulling the stud in to seat it, with less energy lost by the nut grinding tightly against the drum.

Your not going to reuse the studs so knock them out with a hammer.

To install the new ones with a couple of old lug nuts to pull them up tight. May want to put some washers between the backing plate and lug nut when tightening them up. That's how I do it anyway. Using some kind of lube would be fine to. Just make sure the lug nuts you use are in good shape.:chevy:

Not wrong. Have fixed some for customers with distorted threads from drawing them in with nuts is all I was trying to say.
