Putting Sway bars on my 66.
 

Hey guys....I posted in the suspension forum and I haven't gotten any replies...probably cause I'm not patient enough. ;) I've seen the rear sway bars mounted on the Bottom of the trailing arm...is there any particular reason why I can't mount the bar on Top of the trailing arm? I don't see why I can't, but before I start drilling holes I'd rather know for sure. lol Thanks.

TJ, why do you think you need a rear sway bar? Most things I have read seem to think they aren't necessary. I've even heard that they can stiffen your ride and work against you when cornering. Tell me what you have heard.

You might run into clearance issues with the driveshaft, exhaust and possibly shocks if you mounted it on top of the trailing arms.

The purpose of a sway bar takes the twisting and diving force away. So I would assume it will help take away that weird swaying feeling you get from the rear of the truck driving in a slightly bumpy straight line down the road. I really don't know...all I have heard is they make road driving and cornering 100% better....and since I am a experimenter and a "Do things for yourselfer" or whatever (lol) I'm gonna try it an see. I have some tight turns in my area so I can test these out really good and say if I felt a difference. Front sway bars help ALOT with cornering...as for the back...I'm not sure yet. lol We'll find out when I get this truck done!
Oh crap...I forgot all about the darn driveshaft! Well Darn! lol

I installed them on my truck and it made a huge difference. Took a lot of the body roll out of my truck. I am glad I read other post and did my power disc brakes first, because I was going through the curves as fast as I could.

The long track bar and a good set of shocks also help the rear of the truck. When I went to the long track bar it was an improvement from lowering the roll center. The biggest improvement in my truck was going from the KYB shocks to the Bell techs. That was a night and day change. A sway bar will not make much a change in straight line driving but will help the curves a bunch. I also did the caster mod to my truck and had a good alignment shop set the front end up, well worth the effort.

If you want something that won't interfere with anything I recommend the blade style Hotchkis rear swaybar but it is pricey. My truck had a more traditional style sway bar when i got it but it it was not mounted well.

I will look for the link later but there is a way to install a Camaro sway bar. It is flipped upside down and hugs the rear axle for a cleaner look. I'll post a link once I find it.

TJ,

I have the No Limits ARB front and rear on my 66 along with relocated Doetsch Racing shocks and Caster mod. The rear ARB was the last thing I did.

As a package it really works. Prior to fitting the handling was much improved but afterwards it has given an extra level of balance and neutrality to Woody.

Cant help you with you original question but as a mod I would recommend.

Hey guys! Thanks for all the tips and comments!!!! I got my sway bars installed today! Buddy of mine stopped by and we knocked them out. Here's some pictures!
