Wiring harness choices
So I'm at the point where the wiring needs to be redone on my truck. The only useable parts of the old wiring worth saving is the tail light portion everything thing else needs to be redone as its been hacked into at one time or another...so in the cab I'm looking to replace the fuse block, all the wiring to gauges, ignition, and to the steering column. From the cab forward it needs it all.... starter alternator battery all the way to the head lights. Any suggestions as to who to use and why based on prior experiences would be greatly appreciated

Re: Wiring harness choices
The shop I used to work at used either American Autowire or Painless and I plan to use the Ron Francis Wireworks one instead since you can mount it anywhere. Mounting it that way means the wires route to it instead of from it like the others. I took my stock tank out to mount my stereo in but have since changed that to my center console so putting it behind my seat is perfect and much easier on my back and knees.

Re: Wiring harness choices
I have used the AAW kit in my 65 and liked the quality and the well thought out instructions. If the truck is stock with out a ton of upgrades a stock replacement harness from AAW or another vendor is a good option as it does not take long to swap. The last option is a nice original harness. The one I pulled from the last truck and sold was in very nice shape and had no mods during its life time.

Re: Wiring harness choices
I used the American Autowire harness and it was very easy to install

Re: Wiring harness choices
The best I've used on a consistent basis has been Ron Francis.

So if i go with a aftermarket kit such as ron francis, painless, EZ, what compatibility issues am i going to find as far as hooking up to my stock steering column as i imagine everything else you run new...do they come with the correct connector?

I bought this one. American Autowire. Read all of the description. There is a ton of stuff and updates included in this one harness. Summit seems to have it for at least $50 less than everyone else too. |
