On my 1964 K10, their are two square holes in frame cross member, does anything bolt or attach to these holes. Photo below.
thanks, Les |
Re: Does Anything Bolt Here on Frame Cross Member?
If I am looking at that picture correctly that is where the lower rad mounts go on a 6 cyl.

JDL71,
Thanks, here are a couple more photos. It is the square hole, where you could insert a carriage bolt. Note: The extra bracket below the frame cross member in some of the photos, are brackets being adding to mount the front of '78 sway bar. The photos are of a 1964 K10. Les |
Re: Does Anything Bolt Here on Frame Cross Member?
As jdl71 said, that is where the saddles for the small 6cyl radiator mount.

Re: Does Anything Bolt Here on Frame Cross Member?
Thanks for confirming "captain" what jdl71 said.
Follow-up question, were they welded in? Thanks, Les |
Re: Does Anything Bolt Here on Frame Cross Member?
They are riveted. I changed to a larger radiator and used the forward mount, but did not remove the others:

jdl71,
I want to use the 6 cyl holes for something else. Bolt '78 front sway bar (SB) brackets in the holes. Photos below shows that I need to add a strap to the bracket to connect it to frame on one end. First photo shows the straps that will be bent and attached to 6 cyl saddle mounting hole. Les |
Re: Does Anything Bolt Here on Frame Cross Member?
It seemed to me like that cross member was pretty flimsy and thin. Might be different in the K series though.

Re: Does Anything Bolt Here on Frame Cross Member?
kdl71,
The 1964 K10 frame cross member is not as thick as the main longitudinal frame member, however, it is just a little thinner then the '73 to '87 K10 cross member. Seems pretty strong. The bracket is bolted to the frame with two bolts on one side, and to the cross member with one. It would seem from the design of the bracket that the longitudinal frame connection take most of the load. The bracket itself is very thick/strong. Les |
