Air filter box dilema
 

Well, I modified my battery tray so that I could mount my air box. Only problem is, it's about 3" away from the rubber snorkel tube

Does anyone know if GM made different length rubber tubes for various vehicles? Or, does anyone have an idea for something else to joint the air box and plastic snorkel? Thanks

Spectre sells the stuff as well (that might be who oreilly sells) which you can replace the whole thing. I'd probably just grab a $2 piece of corrugated plastic downspout/water barrel tubing if you just wanna extend the little area.

Thanks, gents. One of the problems is the size of tubing required. GM uses a 3.75" orifice, and most flexible tubings are either 3", 3.5", or 4". Wanting to keep the aesthetics on a "factory" look, I really don't want to use an aftermarket CAI set-up. I've been searching the "web" and have stumbled onto something, though, that I may try. The rubber snorkel from a '99 Suburban 5.7 looks like it may do the trick. It has the 3.75" ID needed, and it's almost 9" in length, whereas my Tahoe snorkel is only 7". Guess I'll get one and see. I also came across a silicone turbo intake tube that has the needed ID, but it has a 4 ply thickness and may be too thick and stiff to conform to the required bends.

I don't know the exact measurements but all my parts are stock except the tube and it fit fine to the mass flow senor.:chevy:

Eric, is your filter box mounted up against the inner fender panel, and what did you take your intake tube from? I tried to stretch my rubber snorkel but it still won't reach

My whole intake is from a 2000 Silverado. The air box is up against the inner fender panel. I would suggest unbolting the air filter box, hooking up the tube to the maf, and then moving the filter box around til it fits the way you want it.

Damn its almost like thats how something corrugated is engineered to work....pause...ok I'm being a dick.

Well, Dick, my only concern about pulling it so tight is that if, for whatever reason, the band clamp decides to loosen, that engineered corrugated tube might just want to return to its' natural relaxed state away from the MAF sensor ;)
