Power Steering Pressure Hose
I noticed my power steering pressure hose was leaking in my 67 Chevy C10. When I looked online for the hose it appears it is not available for this year. I am wondering how I determine which hose to purchase? Is there a way to identify what year the power steering gearbox is in my truck? Is the fitting on the end of the P/S pressure hose that goes into the steering box one that has an O ring fitting, or one that has a flange on each side? My lines appear to have flanges

Re: Power Steering Pressure Hose
Don't know what you mean by "flanges" but unless the p/s box is from a later model, the fittings will be what is called inverted flare type. i do not have a part number for the hose, but if "correctness" is not an issue you can have one made. I made one at work for my '70 from all new components, but if your metal tube ends are good, they could be cut at the ends where they join the hose and be reused with a new hose section and flareless ermeto hose ends crimped on. I just used generic 90 degree hose ends and it worked just fine.

Re: Power Steering Pressure Hose
Take the hose off and look to see if it's a flare fitting or an o-ring fitting. If flare get a hose for a 1968. If o-ring get one for a 1983.

Re: Power Steering Pressure Hose
What bit was leaking? Maybe something's loose/leaking...
Since 67 didn't have PS, pop the pressure (bigger if I recall) hose off the gear with a flare wrench and see if its a flare or O-ring. Since its not stock regardless, some figuring may be required. |
Re: Power Steering Pressure Hose
Take the hose off an go to a local auto parts store like a Napa. After 45 years who knows what has found it's way into these trucks.
Don't limit yourself to online only searches. Edit... www.rockauto.com has them listed for all engine configurations for a 1967 C10. Gary |
Re: Power Steering Pressure Hose
Is it box steering or power assist steering? 67 had power assist available

Re: Power Steering Pressure Hose
Thanks everyone for the help. Typo in the initial post with the word flange. I meant to say flare fitting. It appears to be box steering. My hose has a flare fitting and I have tried tightening down more and it still leaks right at the connection. I am guessing maybe the flare is worn out from being compressed? I just checked napas website and looks like they have a few for 1968. So going in with the old hose sounds like a good idea.

Re: Power Steering Pressure Hose
You will need to ask for a hose to fit 69-77 or so. Since 67's only came with a slave cylinder power assist any hose listed for a 67 will not work with your later model power sector. 69-78 or so used flared hose ends then in about 79 gm switched to oring fittings. Or you can take your old hose in and have one made.
