Video troubleshooting? No start?

No start has gas in driver tank, only using one tank. Plugs are .45 gap the timing on damper is 4 btdc, new fuel pump, lines and clear filter fuel is getting up to the carb. New arc seal in distributor cap. Firing order is right, but the two of the plugs don’t look great most are sooty and two are rusty, they aren’t even a year old. As always your help is greatly appreciated. youtube video https://youtu.be/QKFsnwbMZF8 |

First photo is the #1 spark plug.

Re: Video troubleshooting? No start?
Loosen the distributor and rotate it 1/2 inch (or there abouts) counter clock wise.
Leave it loose so you can advance or retard it until it starts. |
Re: Video troubleshooting? No start?
Thanks. My mom actually has insisted that it was a timing issue.

Re: Video troubleshooting? No start?
Do you have a fuel regulator set at 5 psi for that carb?
Eddy carbs don't like fuel pressure. |
Re: Video troubleshooting? No start?
Before moving the distributor you need to verify that you are getting spark. Pull a plug wire, stick a screwdriver in there and going it out while someone turns the key. If you have spark and you have fuel then you can check firing order. BTW, a 1/2" is ALOT to move the distributor. The littlest movement will change timing several degrees.

Re: Video troubleshooting? No start?
1/2 inch is 6 to 12 degrees depending where you measure.

Re: Video troubleshooting? No start?
Need to make sure there is spark before you even consider messing with the timing. Make sure the 12 wire is still connected to the distributor.

Re: Video troubleshooting? No start?
Checked the carb and make sure it isn't all gummed up inside. The ethanol in fuel these days can cause alot of issues, especially with carbs.
I had a similar issue. It started as intermittent hard starting issues. After a few weeks it just wouldn't start. Opened up the carb and found all kinds of crud caused by the ethanol. |
Re: Video troubleshooting? No start?
I recently had a no start issue myself. The truck is new to me so I am learning as I go.
I had an inline filter but checked the carb filter and the PO left the spring and cap in there - Have you checked that filter area? Have you tried putting a bit of gas into the carb vent? Someone gave me that tip on this forum and after I did it with no success I suspected spark issue. I pulled a plug and they were all black - I changed all the plugs and put a new inline fuel filter and it fired right up first try. |
