Interesting, are you planning on doing the upgrade yourself?

Local shop in China Spring, TX will do the work. If it were a 9" I would.

Ok, sorry for all questions, but do you have to purchase 5 lug drums when doing this conversion or can the 6 lug be redrilled to match new axles?

You can redrill your original drums. However since the hub register on the new axles will be aprox 1/2" smaller in diameter, I would recommend new 5 lug drums.

Ok, good to know. Would these drums from a 73 through 87 fit with the 63 conversion as long as they are from a 12 bolt?

Re: WTB rear differential for 63 C10

As long as they are for the 2" wide shoes and not the 2-3/4" wide shoes, yes they will work.

Found a rear from Jimmy on CL
Would this work?
Axle is from a 72 Jimmy 4x4. Axle has new wheel cylinders, e-brake cables, and all break hardware. It is an open carrier with 3.73 ratio. I changed to a 14 bolt so the axle needs a new home.

Any foreseen problems for using in 63? Brake size, differential width?

I had the seller measure today and this was his findings:

Brake shoes are 11" x2"

Backing plate tp backing plate is 56"

I did not get a chance to measure my differential today and now its too dark outside. (So I'm not sure if this rear for sale will fit or not) :dum

Re: WTB rear differential for 63 C10

A '72 Jimmy 4x4 will have leaf springs as well as be 6 lug plus it is an open carrier. I thought you wanted a posi and 5 lug? With this differential you will have to cut off the leaf spring pads and weld on trailing arm mounts as well as the panhard bar mount from your '63 12 bolt. Measuring backing plate to backing plate is a highly inaccurate way to measure the width of a differential. You really should be measuring WMS to WMS (Wheel Mounting Surface). That is the dimension that matters. That '72 12 bolt should be 1.5" wider than your '63 12 bolt
