Re: WTB 55-59 AUTOMATIC coulum

OK, so 55-56 is one type and 57-59 is another - the steering wheels are different between these year sets, so the column shifter arm is made different to accommodate. I may have an extra 55-56 type but I don't know if I have a 57-59 spare or not....maybe

Yes you are absolutely correct. I would need 57-59
Please contact me I've been hunting for this part extensively.

Re: WTB 55-59 AUTOMATIC coulum

OK - so I missed your earlier post somehow but caught this one. I am not entirely sure I have a 57-59 one or not - somehow I ended up with 3 of the 55-56 ones which are rarer to find than the one you need, but I can only place having two of the 57-59's and I have two trucks that need both of those. I have spoke to a friend who recently found me another one, and he is supposed to be pulling that one soon to send to me. Can't remember if he said it was a 55-56 or 57-59 but I am thinking there may not be a shaft length difference at all, and maybe its only a shift arm difference - if that was the case, you could simply change out the shifter arm. I will lay one of each side by side and see if I can tell what the difference is and let you know when I get this next one coming.

So are you trying to go all original with your truck? there's a lot more to a factory automatic than just the column

Re: WTB 55-59 AUTOMATIC coulum

I'm trying to stay true to what Chevy intended it to look like. So yes I want the factory look except I put a 700 automatic transmission in it so it could be more driver and Highway friendly.
Therefore I would need an automatic shift column.
My truck has original plain green paint and original interior inside I'm not planning on painting any of it. It should buff out and shine like new.

If you could get those pictures of the two columns laying side by side that would be phenomenal.
Thanks again.

GMNUTS I have an original late 50s early 60s cool pack AC that I've had in storage for decades. If u you are interested in a possible swap/trade FOR an automatic column.

I will go see what I have today if I'm able - been fighting the flu virus so if not maybe tomorrow. Appreciate the cool-pack offer, but there are two variations of the early cool-packs and yours is the "car only" version. Yours has a narrow rectangular vertical slot on the back right corner for air from the blower where the truck and earlier car version has a larger, more square air inlet hole - the later car type like yours cannot be used with the truck application unfortunately. Looks like all the support brackets are also gone from yours, which doesn't help. Appreciate you offering though, because it was a 50/50 that it could have been the early car type which is indeed the same as for a truck, and I might could have used it if it had been that type....

Re: WTB 55-59 AUTOMATIC coulum

Interesting
I have the wire harness and 3 metal brackets that go with it.

This unit does have a narrow opening on the driver side rear end on the passenger side, sidewall it has a square opening as well.
Great info
