needs some help from owners of 87's that are very original
I need to know what clamp came on the coolant tank hose stock. My truck when I bought it years ago the owner had put one of those after market tanks due to the original tanks leaking I assume and it had a regular ole #6 hose clamp on it i have put a oem tank back and looking at that clamp I would just assume it isn't original that GM put that kind of clamp on it..looks ghetto.
so if anyone is nice enough to take a look or even a picture I would really appreciate it because none of the google images shows that area in the engine bay it's always blocked! |

Not sure if it's the same as an 87, but my overflow hose clamp looks like this, and it's olive drab in color.

In fact, virtually all of my smaller hoses use that type of clamp -- fuel line, tank vent lines, lines to evap canister, etc.

I am talking about the coolant tank end so just to be sure you're saying yours has that same clamp on the tank end that is on the radiator end also correct? thanks again |

My tank has a nipple that the hose pushes into. Looks like there may have been some kind of clamp on the nipple at one time. Weird, huh? http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL38.../412093683.jpg |

Keith is the first one that comes to mind to answer this best...perhaps he's lurking.

Sorry - I kept forgetting to take a pic.
Mine has a small crimp clamp at the surge tank. It is called an Oetiker clamp, after the manufacturer. K |

Re: needs some help from owners of 87's that are very original
It's pretty damn cold outside so I won't be stepping out to check right now, but I am pretty sure my 87 has the style like MikeB posted only they are black not green.

You'll need the crimping tool as well

Re: needs some help from owners of 87's that are very original
Unless your are dead set on a 100% accurate restoration, I would use the clamps pictured. They are a GM correct style, and much easier to acquire and service.

Re: needs some help from owners of 87's that are very original
I have had my truck since new and the crimp clamp is what mine came with.
But! there was a recall on the surge tank's cuz the nipple would crack and fall off, GM replaced the tank with a new one that contained a brass tube in the nipple. When they replaced mine the replacement tank had the crimp clamp and hose attached but they put a worm style at the Rad end. I cant remember if there was a crimp style there or not from the factory. |
Re: needs some help from owners of 87's that are very original
My truck has the same clamp as Keith shows.
I'm right there with you on keeping the truck 100% original! Keep us posted on your searches! |
