Power lock wiring

looking to add power locks to my crewcab, I'm curious where the wires go thru the cab from the door on a factory setup. I see the holes you drill to put in the loom piece between the door and cab, but where do the wires come out from there? its double wall behind the kick panel. is there a factory hole behind the dash they come out of? pics would be awesome. thanks

Re: Power lock wiring

Yes-there is a hole just above each kick panel-it accesses a 3" or so cavity before going out through the second hole which is sealed up with the accordion boot.

If you need simply a power lock only harness I have them in stock for a crew cab. I can also supply lock switches and possibly door jamb accordion boots if you need them. PM for details or, if you have a complete factory setup in good shape then never mind.....lol

And behind the b-pillar trim there is a 1" hole just above the floor seam where the rear door wiring travels through-no grommet either, just a smooth machine punched hole before extending into each door via a boot.

Re: Power lock wiring

what about a pic of where the door lock button goes in the door panel. trying to decide if I want to cut my panels or just put a switch in the console.

Re: Power lock wiring

Actually, if you simply wanted a single switch in the console, the wiring would be a little easier for you to run AND, no holes in your door panels.

Re: Power lock wiring

so does the wiring go thru the same hole that the door light switch goes thru? the only other hole is almost at the top of the dash and appears to not go down at all.

Re: Power lock wiring

On the front doors there is a flat area on the cab between the hinges-that is where the hole needs to go for the wires to come in, but then directly across from it on the kickpanel side you need to drill another hole-there is about a 3" gap between the two.

Re: Power lock wiring

My harnesses come with new cab grommets so you can use them as a guide as to what size hole to drill but I believe its 1.5"

Re: Power lock wiring

ok so the factory harness has another hole drilled on the inside as well as the outer doorjamb hole then.

Re: Power lock wiring

Correct. Both holes are machine punched from the factory-when I add accessory holes like that I always use a reamer to smooth the edges-it helps to reduce wire chaffing. I so use a kevlar type abrasion sleeving in that very area as extra protection. There are little things like that which are better than GM designed for.
