Is this Dash Cut ?
1 Attachment(s)
With this 80's cassette player installed do you think the dash has been cut?
|
Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
Not necessarily cut. I had a 80s alpine cassette player with a similar look and my dash was not cut.
|
Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
I think there is a good chance it is still original.
|
Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
Thanks for the reply. I can see the cassette player is not as wide as the CD players. I'd never cut a dash but if it was already cut then I could install a modern car audio.

Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
Yeah doesn't look like its cut. Looks to be about the same style as what is in my truck. My truck has an old cassette deck in it. I took it out and gutted all the components out of it. Makes a perfect Ipod holder. I made a custom mount in the glove box and put a new cd deck in there.

Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
Doubtful it has been cut, I've seen a lot of those double shaft 80's stereos in our trucks, and they are usually a direct fit.
|
Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
Mine had one of those. Direct fit, not cut.
|
Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
Alot of those type stereos have adjustable shafts eliminating the need to cut/
|
Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
Anybody know if a "modern" CD player will fit original dash without cutting?

Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
I currently have one in my '72 that looks like yours , dash is not cut
|
Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
I've been putting in-dash AM/FM/Cassettes in these trucks since the '70s with no issues. I have a sweet Alpine stereo & amp waiting to go in my '72. I've seen people toss these out to put an AM in and never understood that, unless it was to have an all original truck. I have had some stereos that needed the two holes filed out some for wider or narrower shafts

Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
There is a place that can convert a stock unit to add a 3.5mm plug to play your Ipod or phone music and blue tooth.

Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
All the seller has to do is pull the knobs off, then the plate, and expose the area to get you a picture
|
Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
I can tell you from past experience tho that if it was cut the radio knobs would have nothing to hold on to except that plastic face plate, if it did that it would most likely not sit in the opening very well and the face place would be stress bent inward, it looks nice and flat..
I have ran 4 different cassette players like that thru the years and never had to modify the opening in any way. |
Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
Keep it intact, modify the knob to put stock l
Knobheads, and install an IPod hookup for your iTunes. (That's what I did) Or install a hookup for a remote CD changer. Lots of options without cutting a good dash |
Re: Is this Dash Cut ?
Thanks for all the tips, ideas and replies. As I said if its cut I'll install a modern player in it and if its not cut probably a stock AM radio with a http://www.garytayman.com/stereo.htm conversion.
