What the heck is this part?

I'm cleaning things up on my new-to-me 79 C10. It was an A/C truck at some point, but over half the system is gone so I'm trying to tidy up what is left. This part has what I assume is a vacuum line going to it, and I can see the line is teed off in the dash.

What is it? Do I need it for something else?

that is a vacuum reserve cannister. It helps buffer the vacuum load on the engine when all the A/C doors ore moving. Do you need it.. if you removed the A/C and went to cable operated heater and vents, no. If your outlets are still vacuum operated, it will help but is not strictly required.

Have 2 of those on my 83 but mine are round, back when I was in the NAVY when working on the truck some guys would ask me what those were, I would tell them those are my emergency brake blow down bottles

Sounds good, thanks. So what should I do with the line going to it? Cap it at the tee, or will that cause an issue?

If it's nkt obvious, I'm not very familiar with vacuum systems.

Re: What the heck is this part?

My 83 has two vacuum reservoirs - one on the left firewall near the wiper motor and one on the extreme right side near the a/c box. One is for the a/c system and one is for the cruise control system (if I recall correctly.) Personally, I would try to restore your a/c system if you can - it is a very nice feature to have. Cruise control is nice also, but I would go with an aftermarket electronic cruise since the vacuum operated ones are problematic for me.

My truck doesn't have cruise, and the A/C system is so far gone it woud be a major deal to get it back. This truck is far from a daily driver, and I'ma windows down fresh air kinda guy. Plus, I'm in Wisconsin not the desert, so I should be allright.

Just cap it, or hook it up and cap the outlet or remove hose and cap at the engine.
