Annoying brakes

2 Attachment(s)
I had to replace the CCP proportioning valve last weekend while at the beach car show. The CCP proportioning valve had the plunger in the front of it with a rubber boot covering it. It blew the seal out of it and every time I stepped on the brakes it would shoot fluid out of it. I bought a new one and it doesn' have the front plunger. So any way here is the question for all of you.

The master cylinder is a after market one that I have no idea who makes it. I bought it used from a truck club member about 1.5 years ago. The problem is the lid moves around on it and the rubber gasket has about a 1/8" gap all around it. It leaks every time I drive it.

Tonight I hope I fixed it. I cut a piece of rubber gasket I had bigger than the lid so that it would over lay the master cylinder lip and with the lid in place it smashes it down good and tight. You can see the gasket in the pictures. I hope this has fixed it but wanted to hear what any of ya'll have done for this problem. If you have solved it by some other means please post them.
If this works I will take it back off and trim the gasket back to the edge.

My 67 did this when I first got it. MC was new and I could not figure what was wrong. I "adjusted" the two hold down loops by pulling them sideways to have a tighter download on the cap. It did the trick. Worth a try Andy

I will see if I can get it any tighter. I drove it to work this morning so I'll see if it leaks any when I get home tonight.:chevy:

The cover looks to small for the master cylinder. Are you sure its the correct cover ?

I ended up buying a new "plastic" one and solved my issues. There are some nice aftermarket ones. CPP has one but I know you wont purchase from them, it is adjustable on all sorts of stuff.

I bought it all together but that don't mean much! It's just the opposite though! With just the supplied gasket the lid will move all over the place on it. It's pretty sold right now but I don't know how long it will hold up. :chevy:

I bought a replacement when i did my brakes that had that problem, the upper surface was faced down too far and the lid would not sit tight in the gasket, i returned it back to NAPA and got a free replacement.

Drove the truck to work this morning and back home. Checked it out when I got home. No sign of leakage so hope I'm good.

swamp rat,
didn't buy anything from parts store. I bought everything form a friend almost 2 years ago. I did buy the new gasket but it was from a car show vendor. I may ride down to his shop in a couple of weeks to pick up a chrome 11" booster though. he told me if it didn't fix it to bring it back and he would give me my $5.00 back.
