modifying an lmc blazer tank
Have any of you guys ever modified an LMC Blazer fuel tank to work with a newer fuel pump? I want to use the one out of my 2003 Yukon. I know they sell a ring somewheres to modify fuel tanks to accept these pumps but do any of you have a step-by-step?

Yes, I bought a kit with pump and all. Just make sure when you decide where to put the pump that it clears cross braces and your fuel guage arm has full motion. I had to adjust my take placing slightly.

Another memeber on here, Nasty Buzard, modified his pickup tanks to work with the newer sending unit in his build thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=627161&page=9
Post 205 shows how he used a chunk of the donor's plastic tank to make it work and post 230 shows how the vetteworks adapter ring works. Both ways would work on your blazer tank you'd just have to figure out which newer sending unit is going to have the right/closest height to work right. Even if it's a little too tall there's a way to shorten the rods in the sending unit that's also referenced in that thread. ps. Post some pics once you get it figured out. I'm eventually going to be doing the same thing whenever I get around to doing the LS swap on my K5 since the newer sending units have all the evap provisions I'm going to need for a CA legal swap... |

I have been looking at doing the same thing as a 73 up blazer jimmy or suburban tank is too long to fit in the back of a 2 wd truck. |

I put a fuel bucket type sender in my Blazer tank. The biggest problem with it is it needs to be recessed in the tank quite a bit, otherwise you will be hitting the cross braces in the floor or the floor itself. Lost all my pics of doing it though, so this is the only pic I have of it with the body off.

It's a Blazer, and I don't have any other pics with the body off thanks to a computer virus that wiped (encrypted) all the pics I had on the SD card in my phone. :( But I can tell you that it's pretty much right behind the original fuel sender hole, which I am still using just for the gas gauge. I made the box part, then just trimmed the tank to fit it, then marked and trimmed the box to fit flush at the top of the tank, it's about 1 1/4" or so deep in the top of the tank. |
