Calling all electrical gurus
The only fault I have with my recently acquired 1984 K20 (and is no fault of the trucks) is that it has the dimmer switch on the column.
Has anyone retrofitted a floor dimmer in one of these trucks? ANyone have the color codes for the wires on the dimmer? Know the easiest access point to tap them? US automakers getting rid of the floor dimmer has always been a pet peeve of mine. I hate them on the column! Thanks for your help! |
Re: Calling all electrical gurus
The column mounted dimmer is fairly easy to replace.
The 1984 Service and Wiring manuals are in my signature. |

Re: Calling all electrical gurus
Super easy to do. On the column switch you'll find a connector with 3 wires in it, tan, light green, and blue. Snip those 3 wires and run them down to the floor dimmer switch you want to use. It hooks up basically the same way. The blue wire will be on the cavity by itself and the tan and green will be in the other 2 cavities. The tank and green can be put in either cavity, doesn't actually matter, all the switch does is switch the current from the blue wire into either the tan or green wire.

I like the column dimmer. The floor buttons seemed to get dirty and crunchy awfully quick on the farm trucks. |
