Temp gauge wire routing

What is the correct/best routing of the green/insulated temp sensor wire from the firewall to the terminal? Photos may help! Thx

The original routing was in a fabric loom along the valley formed by the left valve cover and intake manifold. My original 350 left valve cover had a couple retainer clips for attachment. At the front, it dropped down to a clip retained by the bottom water pump bolt/stud then back and up to the temperature sensor. The pictures below show the routing. In the second picture the bolt/stud is in the wrong (top) hole.

EDIT: Added 3rd pic.
