Transmission Fluid Level

Hey Everyone. Finally got to start the truck..

First time in 4 years. i've checked all fluids, manually turned it over to ge the oil throughout the block.... etc.. all ok.

Went to put it in gear and nothing. checked the fluid in the tranny (powerglide automatic) and it was low. Put some fluid in and it moves just fine. So now to my question...

When do you check the fluid level? when motor off, on, warm, cold, in neutral?

Any advice appreciated....

hot in park you should see that written right on the dip stick a lot of people don't look at the whole dip stick but it tells you on the stick what to do.

Thanks. But how do I get it hot if I can't drive it yet? Also should the level be higher when it sits over night and I check it or higher when hot and in park? Right now it is at full when parked and cold..

Thanks

With the trans cold and the engine off, the trans fluid should be a bit above the full mark. But I can't say exactly how far. If you can't get the trans warmed up, I would leave the fuild level where it is until you can. You do not want to overfill the trans..

On my 1960 Hydramatic, it states on the dip stick, check fluid level while in idle. FYI, This might be a great idea for a new Thread. Posting all we know about the various transmission.
