Rear window seal
 

I recently purchased a rear window seal for my 1972 c10 from Steele Rubber. I also bought new glass from a local auto glass company. The company I bought the glass from installed the window yesterday using the string trick to install it and the seal looks like crap on the outside of the window. It sticks out at the bottom about a 1/4 inch from the cab in one corner and isn't really completely flush to the cab at all in most areas. So does any one have any experience with Steele rubber? Should I try a different seal? Any suggestions of which seal from anyone who's had success? The old seal which was probably OEM fit great. It's a leak waiting to happen at this point. Any help would be appreciated.

I think this consensus here for windshields is Precision brand. If i were buying a rear window seal. I would hit up one of the board vendors like GMC Pauls and get their advice. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't lead you wrong.

Sounds like an installation issue , Whats it look like on the inside ? Steele rubber has been around forever and make some of the best products out there , the "string trick" should actually be done using 3/16 cord to pull the inner lip all the way in .

This is my opinion and mine only.
I grew up down the road from Steel rubber and I wouldn't use nothing they sale. This is my personal opinion only. I have tried their stuff several times and had to replace it every time.:chevy:

Well call me stupid! The errors on me. I should have looked at the trim before buying the seal. Apparently the previous owner put 67-70 style seals on a 72 cab. The trim tab that pushes into the rubber on the earlier years is centered and 5/8" long. The trim tab on 71-72 models is offset and 1/8" long. I put the long tab in the shallow seal....no wonder the trim doesn't fit and the seal won't lay flush on the cab. Another lesson learned on my journey to rebuild an old Chevy truck. Thanks to all for your words of wisdom.
