Steering Wheel Pictures

Hey Guys,

I've been tossing around the idea of getting a new steering wheel for my 66. I like the look of original one but with the power rack and pinion steering, a wheel that large isn't needed anymore. I'd like something a little smaller and maybe with less of a dish to get the wheel closer to the dash.

What have you guys swapped to in your trucks with power steering? Got any pictures?

I went period correct sorta, and got a repop GM comfort grip wheel used in the 1st get Camaros (14" I think). I thought it would feel a bit "boney" since it is so thin compared to my DDs, but it is really comfortable to hold and drive with.

Oh yeah, remember the mountsare way different than the later model wheels. (turn signal cancel cam/mount), so some wheels will mount, but the turn signals won't cancel correctly. I switched to 69 C10 column in mine, so it wasn't a big deal after the switch.

I put in a Moon Blue metallic Blue in with my Manual Flaming River rack quick ratio. 3/4 to one side and 1-1/2 lock to lock.

My same truck. First pic. Olds 442 steering wheel with a turned aluminum horn center. Second pic. close up of my horn center, third pic billet flamed wheel & horn cap with (fake) wood grain trim. Quite a bit of time passed between the first 2 pics & that last one. I can see in the last pic I had added my 64 Chrysler A/C vents, 73 Power Disc Brake pedal mod and a suspended gas pedal and since that last pic I've had the seat reupholstered & added power windows. Are these trucks ever done? Next on the agenda - a Cadillac parking brake so when I drop the truck into Drive or Reverse the brake will release automatically. Yep, I'm one lazy SOB.

I also like the original steering wheel look and struggled with a smaller diameter steering wheel after going with power steering. I had an old deluxe steering wheel that was worse for wear, but the hub was salvageable. I used an old Pontiac steering wheel that I had reduced the diameter of many years ago for a car that I sold long ago.

I too am looking for a smaller diameter wheel. Mine is the deluxe wheel found in pre-64 models and just a bit oversized for my taste.

Keep the images and ideas coming, I need one that gives me some leg room without doing a column swap.

Forgive me if I'm wrong here and if I got time I'll try and look up the information but I could swore you could get a smaller diameter one as a re pop. 59 Biscayne wheel same thing. It's been a while since I did the swap on mine but I remember I was adamant on having the oem larger wheel which they don't make anymore from my knowledge so I forked out some cash.
