Rearend?

I've been lurking for a while and this site is great,thank you all. Anyway,I have 64 with a 230/250. I'm putting a th350 tranny in her and wanted to know if the stock rearend(gear ratio) would be ok for a daily driver?. Sorry if this was addressed but I couldn't find it

More than likely you have 3.73 and that is pretty slow for a direct transmission as a daily driver. I found a 3.07 and that is OK. A 700R4 would give you an overdrive which works better with the 3.73. I jack up one wheel and compare the driveshaft turns to one turn of the wheel to figure out the ratio. There are other ways like checking the code or counting teeth.

The rear tire size will also be a determining factor in choosing the best rear gear ratio.
