which frame
As titled I'm wondering which frame I have, was told it was early 70's frame this is 4x4 btw,my truck when I bought it was a 64 sitting on an early 70's, But I need to know exactly which yr as I'm considering a lift and don't want to order the wrong one, I saw some #'s on the right front toward the spring hanger mount the last # was 70, so can I assume that it's a 70 or do I need to measure the spring width or length of springs, any help would be greatly appreciated...this is a Frankenstein truck...LOL......................:chevy:

Re: which frame
Can you post some pictures so we can try to help you? How about some leaf spring measurements? The 72 and down have shorter front springs than the 73 ups. The pre 72 frames are also narrower than the 73 up frames.

Re: which frame
hope this helps...the front end partially disassembled...

Re: which frame
The strap on the front of the driver side leaf makes me think it is a 72 and earlier frame. Is there a Vin number stamped into the frame near the steering box?
|
Re: which frame
I agree 72 and earlier, but to double check just measure the mounting holes and call where you wana order from.

Re: which frame
72 bump stops were bolted in like yours. My 1970 bump stops were held in by the rubber. However the sway bar appears to be of 73 or newer type with mods to make it work. Need pics of the whole truck though! Just because we like pics!

Re: which frame
Yea the sway bar was added by the P.O. and pretty sure my bump stops are bolted on...I know when you order the lifts that there always from 69-72 so I should be safe with that...Boy I had my hands full or should I say truck full my son got a project truck an
82K20 and I hauled it home yesterday... http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/...psbacba0c2.jpg |
Re: which frame
Would there be a vin on the frame with it being that old ?

Re: which frame
Oh I should have said that the 64 body is on an 4x4 chassis this is a Frankenstein truck..I recently went from a 292 six to a 402 BBC...

Re: which frame
Very nice engine swap! I'm pretty certain that only 1972's had that strap on the front hangers. (I could be wrong though)

My 65 C10 has the vin stamp in the frame, in fact I think I see it in this pic.
Dont think GMCs had frame vins on early trucks though |

Re: which frame
Hey Randy, I really like the painted front frame and firewall. What did you use to paint with? Rattle can or spray gun? Im at that point with the '63 and am not really ready to bite the bullet on a spray set up.

Randy if you have a 72 short wheelbase frame, this would be the direction I'd be heading.

Re: which frame
73 and newer frames the rear shocks are on opposite sides of the rear axle.
|
Re: which frame
Oh ok Mudder, I'm pretty sure that there both are mounted on the same side...
|
Re: which frame
Looks like a 72 frame to me. definietly looks like a 67-72 frame, the front frame horns that are still attached to the bumper look like 67-72 horns.as said before with the spring stops and open knuckle disk breaks I'd say 72.
