Got to be worth $100 right?

It appears to have an aluminum top cover - if so it's an NP435. Most prevalent in Fords, but I believe it was called the "close ratio" option on late 60's Chevys. My Suburban has one in it, though not original. Can you snap a shot of the ID tag? I'd like to compare numbers to mine - haven't found any decoding info for them yet.

And yes, I have to think it'd be worth $100 if it's functional.

Here is a pic of the id tag. It shifted great for the two months I drove the
Suburban.

It's worth what someone will pay, but I wouldn't pay more than a $100 bill for it. There's just too many inexpensive newer options out there.

Rock n mud guys may have some interest.

Thanks. Here's mine:

The first characters on the second line sure look like a date code, followed by "435" to denote model, I suppose.

Did your 'burb have a big block? I have a 68 truck with a big block with a different serial number, my first gear is 4-1

No this transmission was behind a 292 6. What other vehicles can this transmission go in? Did cars use it?

So your first gear is a 'granny gear' 6-1 Trucks only, I think this was a 4 speed the GM used with the transition in 68 from the SM420 to the SM465

Re: What transmission is this and what's it worth?

No, no cars equipped with it from the factory. Some Chevy trucks, more Fords. Don't think Jeep, Dodge, or IH ever used it. It's right in there with the GM SM420/SM465, and Warner T18/19. Considered obsolete to most because of the lack of an overdrive, but well suited to heavy duty 4x4 builds. Even big block engines have to get pretty brawny before they test the limits of it.
