Well, my rear end is toast
On this other 66. I am about to push this thing into the street and move on. I pulled the axles to install the 5 lug CPP axles I bought. Someone, along the line, had "rebuilt" the rear end but removed the factory Posi and installed a beat up "Open" carrier and best of all? They used 63-64 guts with 17 spline axles and spiders. I also noticed the mounting pads where the u-bolts fit through, 1 of the holes is wollowed out really bad. I cannot find a rear end in Austin area that I can afford at all. This project is dead to me.

Re: Well, my rear end is toast
Been there and felt the same. Felt like selling several times. Let it sit and take a break. Keep searching craigslist and a deal will pop up, promise.

Re: Well, my rear end is toast
You can buy new saddles for a decent price from many vendors. (Capt. Fab makes them I think.) Then you can use a non-stock rear that you may find for a better price.

Re: Well, my rear end is toast
A '63 to early '70 truck 12 bolt will be the same width. A late '70 to '82 12 bolt will be 1.5" wider overall, but you can use parts from one (such as the carrier) if you happen to find a deal on one in that year range.

Re: Well, my rear end is toast
All you need is the guts from a 30 spline carrier. Look in the junk yard for a 73 to 82 with a 12 bolt as they are everywhere it seems.

Re: Well, my rear end is toast
I just replaced my posi, if you call Adams Driveline in Henderson, NV (702) 568-5680 and see if they held onto my old parts.
