Glovebox door issue
My glovebox door doesn't align properly and is difficult to open. I've tried removing and reinstalling but I can't seem to get it to close or open correctly. There is no sign of the door being bent or warped.
When closed the door looks like it is not flush. When pushing the door button the door only opens approx 1" and sticks, then pulling it open makes a loud snap sound from the spring as if there is something catching. It's probably something simple but I thought I'd ask rather than continue messing with it and end up scratching the new paint. |
Re: Glovebox door issue
Hmm mine does the same thing, interesting to see if someone else has fixed it! I haven't really tried to fix mine yet...

Re: Glovebox door issue
Yes it is one of those little nagging problems that has been bothering me. I'm not sure if the harsh snapping of the flat spring is normal or if I have a problem with how it is installed.

Re: Glovebox door issue
I just did mine recently and had to slightly bend up the latch. i just applied some pressure to the opening lip until it opened smoothly and closed properly. Worked for me!

Re: Glovebox door issue
Ken, its the upper lip that I adjusted. The spring at the bottom then took care of itself. Now when I open the glove box it pops right open.

Re: Glovebox door issue
Ok might be something different than what I'm experiencing. When I press the button the door pops opens approx 1 inch but sticks there, and I have to pull on the door to open further which makes a loud snapping sound as if metal is catching somewhere.

Re: Glovebox door issue
Is the bottom of the glove box door rubbing the metal part of the dash under it? You probably already have checked the screws to adjust the door up and down but double check. Just like my old Harley, mine tends to vibrate things loose over time.

Re: Glovebox door issue
Just throwing this out there. The glove box door pivots on a piece of plastic in the bottom left and right corners. It's roughly the circumference of a quarter and about a 1/4" thick. If one of them is busted or very lose, it throws everything off and the door tends to bind. If they need to be replaced, here's a link to where they can be purchased, part #12 ... http://www.lmctruck.com/features/cbe/CBECH4.htm

Re: Glovebox door issue
Thanks for that ACK, I haven't checked since originally buying the truck a couple years ago so those could very well be worn as well.

Re: Glovebox door issue
Mine just started doing this same thing too after a friend opened it. Worked fine until then. Haha I'll try bending the lip also.
