LS swap question

Gentlemen, gentlemen, lend me your ears.... I have purchased an LS, 5.3 out of a 2001 Suburban... I need to know what inline fuel pump I can use for this motor.... my understanding is I need about 60 psi, I tried the parts store, but they cant find crap without a part number or application... So if anyone knows what vehicle I can get one out of, or a part number I would appreciate it...
Thanks...

I bought the fast efi pump with a regulator it's pretty expensive but quiet and works well. You also need to add a return to the tank incase you weren't aware. A lot of guys use the corvette filter/regulator but I don't have a part number for you on that one

I think you are looking for AC Walbro GSL392 inline fuel pump. 255LPH high pressure.

Also you can use the 2002 Corvette fuel filter/regulator to make a return. But, If your fuel rail/system already has a return line I'd recommend you use it.

This is what I initially went with, Walbro and corvette regulator, inexpensive and it works well.

Good luck with your swap, you will love it.

Thanks for the info... the motor that I have has a regulator built into the fuel rail, so I would assume that it should work, I would just need an inline fuel pump... I have been able to find some info and see some people are using a MPE 16020 from Orileys auto, but it states that it runs 45 PSI... any thought on this?

I used Walpro on a LS6 powered street rod I built a few years ago. Worked perfect. If I remember correctly (memory isn't what it used to be) I had to have 58 PSI.

Re: LS swap question

Yep, 58 psi, and NOT vacuum/boost referenced. That factory regulator/filter setup works well. I'm using all aftermarket, because I already had a return-based fuel system, but if I had to start from scratch that's how I'd do it.

This is so true. In your case, I'd just tell them 2001 Suburban w/5.3 liter V8! With that, you should find a part number at least and then go from there.

Those kids behind the counter at Auto parts stores don't seem to know anything other than how to look up year/make/model and read what they see on the screen. The old geezers that really do know something are becoming a thing of the past as have reams of parts catalogs and diagrams that used to line the parts counter. I was a parts counter guy back in 1989 while attending college. The job required some skill and knowledge of auto parts/repair, ability to run a lathe to turn rotors and a certain amount of intelligence to not make a fool of yourself when helping out the corporate customers ( the ones who know their $hit and get extended the full discount ).

I could be wrong but I think the fuel pressure is regulated in the gas tank. The little device that sits on the fuel rail is some sort of buffer not a fuel pressure regulator. On the 2001 engines did they have one line running up to the fuel rail?

Re: LS swap question

Yes the little pod on the side of the fuel rail is your regulator, and will not have to run a return line.
I have swapped both styles on 2 different projects for customers the Walbro pump is the best choice for the pump From speedway #960392 (gsl392) 60 psi and the install kit (I recommend will keep pump quiet) #960939 $14.99

If there is a return line from the fuel rail , the regulator is in it , the rail that is . Newer models without the return [returnless] can use the corvette filter/regulator almost all of us do , great info on ls1tech.com in the conversions and hybrids section

Re: LS swap question

A 2001 truck engine WILL have a return line and the regulator on the fuel rail. As others have said, use a Walbro255 and run the feed line to a fuel filter then the feed line on the fuel rail and the return from the rail back to the tank.

get in touch with way2lo2 (Boris)

He offers this for the LS swap crowd on his FaceBook page, I'm sure he'd offer the forum the same price.
