Opinions on where to cut my frame
2 Attachment(s)
Got my replacement piece of frame (thanks Richard) and now I need to figure out exactly where I want to cut the old frame out to replace those giant holes where the power steering pump mounts. Any tips from those that have done it before? I think I know what I want to do but I am welcome to more opinions.

I need to do the same repair and I was going to cut the entire vertical section out but leave the horizontal top and bottom sections. Replace with new piece. I also grabbed an oem doubler plate from a blazer.

I would start with removing all the paint, wire wheel it clean so you can see all the cracks.
A butt weld is not a good as a lap weld. So maybe cut where you can add a extra plate to give it strength. I would do what Ryan said so you don't loose to much original metal. Plus it will keep everything aligned up too. |

Thanks for the replies. I was having a real hard time trying to figure out how I wanted to do the vertical cuts around the bad area so I decided to just replace the whole frame piece. I will definitely be cleaning up the entire piece and looking for cracks before I weld it to the frame. I will also put a fishmouth piece on the inside to reinforce the joint.

71chebby who did you get the frame piece from? I'm looking for a piece on the passenger side where the front shock locator hole is.
