Rear mount gas tank
i bought an A/M rear mount gas tank. Fits between the frame rails behind the axle. Should I bolt it directly to the frame?

Re: Rear mount gas tank
I don't know what A/M is?
If it was designed to be used with straps the flange isn't strong enough to support the weight of the tank, use the straps (IE, stock style tanks). If the flange has a bunch of holes drilled in it and didn't come with straps, *probably yes*. Pretty much all aftermarket "square" tanks I've seen seem to be frame mount. Gas weighs a little over 6 lbs/gal, so a full tank can be over 120 lbs! |
Re: Rear mount gas tank
A/M is my abbreviation for aftermarket (lazy). Thanks for the input. I hadn't thought about the weight aspect. Problem is the straps it came with don't fit it very well. I guess I will figure a way to re-bend them so they fit the tank.

Re: Rear mount gas tank
That extra weight over the rear axle helps with traction and autocross events!
I couldn't get mine to fit right either, so I ran them front to back using the cross members below: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1149008377 Check out my old thread here, especially post #3. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=197895 It's been under the truck almost 11 years now. It actually worked out because I bought a hitch for the truck and it wouldn't have fit with the straps the other way. |
