Drum Brake Question
I know this may be a dumb question but I'm installing new brake shoes on my 63 C10 Stepside. So I bought the shoes for the front and the back (they are the same) and I bought 1 universal spring kit front and 1 universal kit for the back. I assumed one kit would do both front and the same for the back. After spending 4 hours trying to get one of the front ones on and thinking the springs are color coded I realized that the kit only does one side (I think). The other springs would not come close to lining up. Looking at the springs I took off and the way I have them installed matches. In short does 1 universal kit just do one brake drum?????
Thanks in advance Marcus.... |
Re: Drum Brake Question
One kit should do both sides but not all four. You would need a one kit for the rear and one for the front and they might be different.

Re: Drum Brake Question
63 was the first year for self adj. brakes. If yours does not have self adjusting brakes you need a corresponding kit. The kit covers both sides of one axle. On self adj. brakes one return spring is shorter than the other.

Re: Drum Brake Question
Thanks for the help. Mine does not have self adjusting brakes. The springs I took off were all the same length so I had to use the two long ones to make it work. Which means I'll have to buy a kit for each wheel....

Re: Drum Brake Question
Buy a kit for a 62 model. The adjustment rod spring will be different also. Some of the holdown parts will also be different.
