1987 Chevy Truck heater hose
Hello, my 87 Chevy heater hose has a rust spot in the metal part blowing antifreeze out. Went to fix but the 1in nut that is connected to metal I'm not able to reach and get a wrench in there to loosen so I can replace the hose. Any suggestions of what I need to do? Can't afford to have a mechanic fix. Thanks

We are asking because there are no nuts on normal heater hose set ups. Everything is clamps, and the 'correct' ones I have worked on have no pipes inline, only connections at the water pump / manifold and heater core. With A/C there might be a Ranko vacuum actuated valve in the hose. So a picture of your issue area would be helpful.

When you say "metal hose" are you referring to the water neck that attaches to the intake and the hose to the radiator?

The Tbi trucks did have a hard line crimped on the end of the hose. I have cut them off and used a socket to take off. I agree they are difficult. I'll see if I can find a pic

Most all of the Tbi engines had them, s-10, full size. Back of the intake on the passenger side

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I just replaced the heater core on my 87 Jimmy and want to update the hoses while I'm at it. Does anyone sell the OEM heater hose with the metal on the end? I don't want to take a chance on breaking the fitting off or messing up the intake by trying to remove the fitting. Thanks in advance.

The pic on the left I think most people thought you had. because you did not say you had or were working on A/C heart core. Well that second pic looks like a A/c line to the condenser in front of the rad ( like another rad to cool A/c oil/gas liquid mix) I guessing you have the big heater case cover on the fire wall for A/C option. If the line from vapor to the condenser is what your looking for 87 try the Dealer may have them still, or your auto parts store, E-bay, scrap yard. If you go with good used lines make sure you get new a/c O-rings for the fittings.

He’s talking about the coolant hose on the TBI engine, not the ac lines.
-Just take a socket and remove the fitting in the intake. Use a 6 point socket, an impact and PB blaster so you don’t round it off. When that’s out, you can get a barb to NPT adapter and put a regular hose and clamp on it. |

I would take the hose into Napa or someone who makes pressure hoses and see if they can make you up the hose or at least a fitting end for the core side that a heater hose can be pushed onto then a clamp.

those fittings rot so its good to take them out and replace them. you can do it now or have it towed when It breaks off somewhere on the side of the road.
