How heavy is a removable blazer top?
I got a 72 with a single layer top. i have it unbolted and ready to remove. I am waiting until tomorrow morning as I have a bunch of guys showing up to work on the house and I am going to ask them to give me a hand, but it feels kinda heavy. I am thinking three guys on each side and move it back and off the truck and set it on the ground.
Does anybody know how much it weighs? |
Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
BobbyK (board member) weighed his at around 240 or so. I've taken mine off by myself, but it helps to have another pair of hands to steady it.

Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
So myself and three other guys should be no problem?

Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
it's not nearly as heavy as it looks. 2 or 3 people can easily do it.

Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
Pretty light, I took mine off daily by myself when I daily drove my '72. You get used to it lol Couple hundred pounds sounds about right.

Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
2 people is way easier than trying to do it yourself unless you have a hoist/lift to assist.

Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
I balance the load on my back and walk it off the back. I have my sons help me with balancing it.

Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
Wasn't that bad to remove but there is no way I could do that with just the wife helping.

Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
They are heavy. To me, they are just awkward to handle because of majority of area/weight hanging over the front & not straight above you when pick up by rails.
Easiest with at least 3 people - one on each side under side windows, slide it back a little & put a third person at the front. |
Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
when i had my 84 two people could do it if they had some muscles. i had a broken down 80s s10 blazer in my driveway for a while and i used to back up close to it and slide it off by myself right onto the roof rack of that thing worked great. so all you need is a s10 blazer to help out

Is that lift system your design?

Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
Can 2 guys do it? Sure. Should they? Probably not. I used 3 guys one time, then I started using 4, but then again, we're old farts!
Good luck, and it's not worth getting anyone hurt over. Rg |

I built it with the design in my head. Improving on previous lift's I had made in the past. I chose the materials + figured out the dimensions. Somebody, somewhere, has made something similar before me... I'm sure. Here is a link to the pic's I took while building it. https://public.fotki.com/blazbk/blaz...g-the-roof-to/ And here is a video of it in operation. https://youtu.be/4X-flPMbAxE |

Re: How heavy is a removable blazer top?
Just took mine off this passed week.
I've done it twice with 2 people, and once with 3. I always place blocks under it before lifting it off. Then one person on each side. The issue I have is that we always pick it up too far forward and the hatch tries to roll it over. The next issue is that mine is 4 wd with slightly larger tires so you are lifting right in the middle of your chest where you have less strength. We aren't body builders and with some minor stretching and whining, we get it done relatively easily. Still wish I had one of the contraptions posted above. |
